LNER train stabbing suspect faces more charges

The Peterborough man accused of stabbing 10 people on an LNER train from Doncaster to London on 1 November is now facing seven more charges.

Anthony Williams, of Langford Road in Peterborough, is already due to appear before Cambridge Crown Court on 1 December in connection with charges of attempted murder on the train, but he will also now appear before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court later today for a second time, where he will face the additional charges.

These are the attempted murder of a 14-year old boy at Peterborough, inflicting grievous bodily harm on a man of 28, also in Peterborough, the attempted murder of a 22-year old man in the town, affray and possession of a bladed article in connection to an alleged incident at Ritzy Barbers in Peterborough, common assault on a man on board a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade, and theft of knives from a branch of Asda in Stevenage.

BTP Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said: ‘These are a significant set of new charges. Our investigation into the awful incident at Huntingdon has also focused on other offences previously reported to police or identified by our investigation. We have worked closely with our colleagues in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police alongside the Crown Prosecution Service to bring these charges.

‘I would once again like to stress the importance of not saying or publishing anything which might jeopardise or prejudice ongoing criminal proceedings, or the integrity of the investigation.
