Embankment fire disrupted Overground
A major embankment fire in north east London disrupted London Overground services on the Weaver line last night.
More than 120 firefighters and 20 fire tenders were called to the blaze near Wood Street in Walthamstow, which started at around 18.30. The track and some buildings near the embankment were damaged, and the fire was brought under control by 22.35. There were no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the outbreak is not known, although some reports speak of an ‘electrical’ fire. There will be no trains to Hackney Downs and Chingford today while the track is repaired, and Transport for London is warning that services on the remainder of the line will also be delayed.
