Trains still disrupted by weather after last week’s storm

Most lines have been cleared and reopened following Storm Goretti last week, but problems caused by winter weather are continuing in some places.

Trains between Shrewsbury and Llandrindod on the Heart of Wales line are being replaced by buses following weather damage, while buses are also replacing trains on two Cornish branch lines.

The Par to Newquay line has yet to reopen since Cornwall had a rare red warning of wind which led to all trains being cancelled from 18.00 on Thursday evening. GWR said the Newquay branch was blocked by large trees which fell on to the line, and there are also power problems affecting signals, so trains are not expected to return before tomorrow.

There are no trains between Liskeard and Looe because there was heavy rain last month and the resulting floodwater has damaged some structures. Trains are not expected to return until the end of the week.

Meanwhile, ScotRail has warned that heavy rain is causing fresh problems after last week’s snow. The worst affected lines are Aberdeen to Inverness and the Far North Line between Inverness, Wick and Thurso, and some trains are being cancelled or delayed.
