Railways Bill set to be debated in detail next week
The House of Commons is to debate railway reforms in full next week, when the Railways Bill is due to receive its Second Reading.
The Bill was introduced last month and will set up the ‘directing mind’ Great British Railways, which will take over from Network Rail and also run the main passenger railway when the present renationalisation programme is completed. MPs will now have an opportunity to discuss the Bill’s provisions in detail during the Second Reading debate on 9 December.
The next operator to be renationalised will be West Midlands Trains on 1 February, followed by Govia Thameslink Railway on 31 May.
