Network recovers from Storm Claudia

Most trains are running normally this morning after a weekend in which Storm Claudia flooded tracks and brought down overhead lines.

There is still some disruption today. Floods are blocking the Hereford to Newport line, and Network Rail has warned that the line is likely to stay closed until the end of the day, although a limited service is running between Hereford and Shrewsbury. Network Rail said the force of the water from the River Monnow had moved several eight-tonne boulders.

Engineers are repairing storm-damaged overhead lines between Hyndland and Milngavie, and train services have been cut back to Partick and Hyndland. Again, disruption is expected until the end of today.

Lack of adhesion is causing problems at Hednesford, and trains between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley are likely to be revised or delayed by up to 25 minutes until this afternoon.

There are still no trains between Exeter and Barnstaple, after earlier high water levels affected several bridges and viaducts. Network Rail divers have been making safety checks.
