Railways rescue stranded airline passengers

The collapse of Humberside-based airline Eastern Airways has left many passengers without the flight they were expecting, but several railway operators have offered to help.
Free travel is available to passengers with confirmed airline documents, such as a boarding pass or staff ID.
The operators involved are nationalised LNER, Northern, ScotRail and TransPennine Express, while DfT contractor Great Western Railway, which is owned by FirstGroup, is also helping out for the rest of today with complimentary travel from Newquay, which had relied on Eastern to provide its London Gatwick services.
Other operators are helping passengers who had booked flights from Aberdeen, Humberside,Teeside or Wick.
GWR operations director Richard Rowland said: ‘We understand how difficult it must be for those affected by the sudden suspension of Eastern Airways flights. We’re pleased to be able to step in and help customers and staff complete their journeys, ensuring they can get to where they need to be.’
All Eastern Airways flights have been cancelled after the company was placed in Administration.
