Small firms urged to help with HS2 reset

Efforts to rescue HS2 are being supported by inviting technical specialists to produce innovative ideas, and applications have opened today.

HS2 Ltd chief executive Mark Wild is in charge of a comprehensive review of the struggling high speed project, which has been cut back more than once and now consists only of a section between London and Birmingham, although politicians in the north are continuing to press for some form of link from the West Midlands to Crewe and Manchester.

HS2’s Innovation Accelerator programme is working in partnership with the Connected Places Catapult, and ideas are needed which would improve productivity and be value for money, while also improving safety management.

HS2 Ltd’s senior innovation manager Jon Kelly said: ‘Getting HS2 back on track is our number one priority and this is a unique opportunity for the country’s very best innovators to get on board and help us to achieve our goal.

‘2025 has been a huge year for the project, with both the longest bridge and longest tunnel reaching completion. There is, however, still a vast amount to do. We must continue exploring new tech and innovative solutions to help us complete major construction milestones quickly, safely and efficiently.’
