Kirkby station reopens after collision

TRAINS are running at Kirkby again following a week of work to repair the track and platform, which was damaged by a collision during the early evening of 13 March.

Inspectors from the RAIB and ORR are understood to have been examining information from the train’s data recorder, working alongside British Transport Police and Merseyrail.

The train was derailed at about 18.35 and there was damage to the platform, but all 12 passengers were able to leave the scene after being offered checks by paramedics. The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution but again was not reported to have been injured.

Replacement buses were provided to Kirkby last week while the derailed train was removed and the platform repaired. Trains are now running normally again on the two routes from Kirkby to Liverpool Central and Manchester Victoria.
