Welsh station overcomes Beeching axe

A WELSH railway station has reopened after being closed in the Beeching era.

Fishguard & Goodwick was axed in 1964, but it is far more convenient for both Fishguard and Goodwick than the surviving terminus further along the line at Fishguard Harbour.

The Welsh Government invested £1.4 million to boost the number of weekday trains on the Fishguard line to seven.

The opening follows a campaign in Pembrokeshire to see the station restored. The one remaining track passing the station site was slewed to bring it alongside the original platform, but the former timber station building has been demolished.
