Industry counts down to summer timetables
The introduction of summer timetables on National Rail in two days from now involves significant changes to train services, many of which are new or improved.
Southeastern will be restoring peak hour services to London Blackfriars via the Medway towns, additional weekday trains between London Charing Cross and Maidstone East, and better High Speed services between Canterbury West and St Pancras International.
London Northwestern Railway will be improving capacity by providing another 42,000 seats a week, while TransPennine Express will introduce all-night services to Manchester Airport.
There will be more trains on Greater Anglia lines, including Norwich to Cambridge, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham, and also between Ipswich and Cambridge.
Great Western Railway will launch the first phase of Mid Cornwall Metro, with the number of weekday departures from Newquay rising from eight to 17, including two direct intercity trains to London, both of which are named.
Northern will run more direct Sunday services between Newcastle and Whitby, improved stopping patterns between Sheffield and Lincoln, as well as minor changes in the North West which are designed to improve performance.
Other operators are making minor adjustments, including c2c and South Western Railway.
