'Do not travel' warning on some London lines

A train has been derailed at Selhurst  Network Rail

Updated 10.10

National Rail
has warned of major delays in south London, after 'a number of incidents' which are disrupting Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Southern services. Passengers are being urged not to travel on the affected routes.

One of the problems is a derailed train near Selhurst which has blocked lines towards Norwood Junction and central London and is preventing some trains from leaving Selhurst depot. There has also been a signalling failure involving track circuits between Norwood Junction and London Blackfriars.

Passengers have been warned that trains may be cancelled or delayed by up to an hour, and that some trains on the Great Northern route which run through from south London are also being disrupted.

Services are cancelled until further notice between London Bridge-East Grinstead, Brighton-Cambridge, Three Bridges-Bedford and London Bridge-Epsom, while services between Tattenham Corner, Caterham and London Bridge will be diverted and some Uckfield trains will not run.

NEW Trains between Horsham and Peterborough, and between Brighton and Bedford, are being diverted via Selhurst and will not call at London Bridge.

The problems are also affecting London Overground Windrush Line services between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon. There are no Overground trains at Penge West, Anerley, Norwood Junction or West Croydon, and this suspension may continue all day. Trains to West Croydon are being diverted to Crystal Palace or terminated at East London Line stations.
