Construction starts on new Devon station

WORK has begun on building a new station on the southern outskirts of Exeter.

The two-platform station at Marsh Barton is part of the Devon Metro plan. It will be on the main line south of Exeter St Thomas, and will serve a major employment area.

The new station will also include a new pedestrian and cycle bridge which will connect the station with Alphington, Marsh Barton and the Riverside Valley Park. Devon County Council has designed the station, with advice and assistance from Network Rail and GWR.

It is expected to open next year.

That’s excellent news. But what about reopening the former Portishead line that went from Bristol Temple Meads to Portishead. And with new stations to be built on the former railway line.
