New CEO named for MTR in Britain

A NEW chief executive for the UK business of Hong Kong-based MTR has been named. The new CEO will be Steve Murphy, who is already running TfL Rail services which MTR operates on behalf of Transport for London, and which will become the Elizabeth Line when the central section of Crossrail opens. Mr Murphy will be replacing the present CEO Jeremy Long, who is retiring on 1 October after 15 years in the post. Steve Murphy’s experience also includes chief operating officer at Arriva Group as well as managing director of the former London Overground concession LOREL and of Chiltern Railways. Apart from TfL’s Elizabeth Line, MTR’s other British interests include a 30 per cent stake in the South Western Railway franchise, the rest of which is owned by FirstGroup.
