TfL restarts work on major projects

WORK on major Transport for London projects has restarted, with strict Covid-19 precautions being enforced to protect the staff. The projects now active again are the capacity upgrade at Bank station, the Northern Line extension to Battersea and the rebuilding of a roundabout at Old Street. All the sites have been given new social distancing markers and ‘one way’ walking routes, while the workers themselves are returning in phases. Work had been brought to a ‘Safe Stop’ in late March when lockdown rules were being tightened. TfL’s director of major projects Stuart Harvey said: ‘We have carefully developed our plans and adapted our worksites by working closely with our supply chain. It is a positive step that work can safely recommence on upgrades and key transport infrastructure projects that are so vital for the capital. We will continue to keep activity at all sites under review and ensure we continuously evaluate and improve our approach, with safety at the forefront of all that we do.’
