Campaigners lose fight to keep tram crossing

A CAMPAIGN to preserve a tram crossing in Blackpool has been defeated by the council's executive, which has considered the matter five times.

The crossing at  Lauderdale Avenue in Anchorsholme has been a right of way since 1896, according to local councillors, but the council wants to close it as part of the introduction of modern Bombardier Flexity trams this spring.

It will remain open to pedestrians.
