RMT general-secretary Bob Crow
A threatened 48-hour strike by London Underground staff in the run up to the London Assembly and Mayoral elections on 1 May has been called off by the RMT union.
Members of the union had threatened to walkout on 28 and 29 April over demands for guarantees about conditions and pension arrangements when Metronet workers transfer to Transport for London (TfL).
But RMT general-secretary Bob Crow said he had received a written pledge about the terms and conditions for about 2,500 former Metronet staff and recommended his executive that the strike be called off.
"It is difficult to understand why these assurances could not have been given without us having to name strike dates," he said.
