Storms cause widespread disruption to ScotRail trains

Most train services in the Scottish central belt have been suspended because of the bad weather

SEVERE STORMS sweeping across Scotland have brought many of the country's train services to a standstill.

ScotRail is urging people not to try to travel, because the bad weather means that replacement buses cannot run either.

Gusts of wind of 100mph (160 km/h) or more have been reported, and Network Rail has deployed numerous gangs to remove fallen trees which are blocking many lines.

All train services from Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh have been suspended.

There are no trains running between Helensburgh, Balloch, Dalmuir, Milngavie and Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate, and more problems are reported in the Aberdeen and Inverness areas.

CrossCountry, East Coast, First TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains have also suspended their Scottish services.

There's always been a lot of high energy wind in Scotland. Usually near Alex Salmonds mouth.
