Several well known railway people have been included in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

The former chairman of the ORR Chris Bolt, who is also the PPP Arbiter, becomes a Companion of the Order of the Bath, while Chiltern Railways chairman Adrian Shooter has received a CBE.

There are OBEs for Stuart Baker of the DfT, Northern Rail managing director Heidi Mottram, and Michael Hart, who is a director of the Ffestiniog Railway and also chairman of Welsh Highland Railway Construction.

Superintendent John Hennigan of British Transport Police becomes an MBE, as does John Bigny of the Edenbridge Rail Travellers' Association, and so do two figures in the Community Rail movement. One is Peter Roberts, who chairs the Association of Community Rail Partnerships, and the other is Richard Burningham, who as manager of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership has been associated for many years with the revival of rural lines in the south west.
