£300m invitation to tender issued for Bond Street tube

TRANSPORT for London has issued the Invitation to Tender for the £300 million redevelopment of Bond Street Underground station.

Three prequalified organisations have been invited to tender. They are Balfour Beatty and joint ventures between Taylor Woodrow/BAM Nuttall and Laing O’Rourke/Batchy Soletanche/Costain.

The closing date for the return of tenders is April, and it is expected that a contract will be awarded by the summer. Main construction is due to begin late this year, with the redevelopment of the station completed in early 2017.

The selected contractor will provide an expansion of the station as well as a step-free link between the present site and the new Crossrail station. The project includes a new ticket hall in Marylebone Lane, additional escalators to the Jubilee line and a new low-level interchange between the Central and Jubilee lines which will reduce congestion and make changing trains at Bond Street quicker and simpler.

Utility diversions and enabling works around the new Crossrail station in Hanover Square started last month in preparation for the start of construction, and will continue throughout 2010. To allow the construction of the new northern ticket hall in Marylebone Lane, the buildings at 354-358 Oxford Street will be compulsorily purchased and demolished this summer.
