Industry launches summer timetables

The introduction of summer timetables on National Rail in involves significant changes to train services, many of which are new or improved.
Southeastern is restoring peak hour services to London Blackfriars via the Medway towns, additional weekday trains between London Charing Cross and Maidstone East, and better High Speed services between Canterbury West and St Pancras International.
London Northwestern Railway is improving capacity by providing another 42,000 seats a week, while TransPennine Express has introduced all-night services to Manchester Airport.
There are more trains on Greater Anglia lines, including Norwich to Cambridge, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham, and also between Ipswich and Cambridge.
Great Western Railway has launched the first phase of Mid Cornwall Metro, with the number of weekday departures from Newquay rising from eight to 17 from this morning, including two direct intercity trains to London, both of which are named. Still with GWR, direct services between Bristol Temple Meads, Swindon and Oxford have been restored, running every two hours.
LNER has largely revived the old departure times of the Flying Scotsman, giving that name to the 10.00 from Edinburgh and 10.30 from London King’s Cross. Pipers helped to celebrate the departure of the 10.00 to London from Edinburgh this morning.
ScotRail is running more weekend trains on a number of lines, including more Sunday services between Aberdeen and Montrose and between Aberdeen and Inverurie, while services between Edinburgh and Helensburgh Central will be strengthened on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Northern is running more direct Sunday services between Newcastle and Whitby, improving stopping patterns between Sheffield and Lincoln, and making minor changes in the North West which are designed to improve performance.
Transport for Wales is increasing the frequency of services along the North Wales main line by about 50 per cent.
Other operators are making minor adjustments, including c2c and South Western Railway.
