Manchester tram line was closed by overhead fault
An overhead line fault near Salford Quays in Manchester disrupted Metrolink services on the Eccles line during the morning of 30 January while repairs were carried out.
TfGM said there was no service between Eccles and Pomona, and trams were running only between Ashton-under-Lyne and Deansgate-Castlefield until about 14.00.
Staff helped passengers in the city centre and at the affected stops along the Eccles line.
TfGM’s interim Metrolink network director Ian Davies said: ‘I want to apologise for the disruption that this incident has caused passengers today.
‘Specialist engineers have been working hard onsite throughout the day to repair the damaged overhead line as quickly as possible to get the network back up and running.
‘Trams are now running between Eccles and Ashton-under-Lyne with minor delays, though services are expected to return to normal as we go into the afternoon peak.’
