A Skanska manager working on HS2 has rented a 180-bed hotel in northern Poland to provide a shelter for Ukrainian refugees. Logistics manager Jakub Golata and his wife Gosia, who is a Lincolnshire Police officer, emigrated to Britain in 2004 but have now returned to their home country to help the victims of the Russian invasion. Jakub told the BBC: 'I came up with this idea that if I would be able to rent an entire hotel and place these vulnerable mothers and children in a hotel, and then allow them to settle, feel safe, looked after and be able to come to terms with what's happening, then that would be the best thing'. Skanska has backed his efforts with a financial contribution and also by giving him special leave.

New Coventry station opens

The rebuilt £80 mllion station at Coventry has been formally opened. The opening of the new building coincides with the 60-year anniversary of the opening of the existing Grade II listed station in 1962, as part of West Coast main line mondernisation. A celebration event is being planned later in the spring to mark the occasion.

Northern signs tourism deal

Northern has signed a deal with Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire to become one of its new partners. It will work with the 'destination management' organisation and a new network of other businesses to promote tourism in the Peak District and other parts of Derbyshire.
