RMT predicts ‘long summer’ of ScotRail strikes

THE RMT has announced new strike dates for ScotRail ticket examiners, who have joined their conductor colleagues by walking out every Sunday in disputes over pay for rest day working.

The new 24-hour strike dates for ticket examiners are every Sunday from 13 June to 18 July inclusive.

General secretary Mick Lynch said: ‘RMT ScotRail Ticket Examiners will be taking strike action again this Sunday and every Sunday for the next two months in their fight for workplace justice and parity between grades. Our conductor members are also fully prepared to keep this battle for equality going until the company do the right thing.

‘We are going to be in for a long summer of strike action unless the company gets round the negotiating table with meaningful proposals for resolving the issue of pay equality. RMT remains available for talks.’

Whilst the leadership of the RMT do seem keen on crashing the ship, I do wonder if the leadership of Abellio are just as bad. In recent weeks there's been international coverage of West Midlands Trains sending a phishing test to employees offering a 'bonus to workers' - timing couldn't be worse with four staff dead with Covid. And now this... offering a whopping pay settlement only to management & driving staff, in the full knowledge of the industrial strife it would cause with the remainder. While we know the RMT are militant, it doesn't help matters having a loony management dead set on a fight. Time to boot Abellio, it's like they want to be sacked from their contracts anyway.
