Government issues urgent PPE requirements request to rail industry

RAIL businesses which need anti-virus personal protection equipment for their staff are being urged to send details of their requirements to the Department of Health and Social Care today (8 April).

The Department said all requests will be considered against ‘clinical criteria’.

Staff who maintain a two-metre distance from other people who are not showing COVID-19 symptoms do not need PPE, but should wash their hands frequently, reports the Rail Alliance.

Others are likely to need gloves, face masks and aprons, and may need eye protection as well.

The Department added that existing PPE stocks within companies should be used first, and that all requests ‘will be used to inform supply priorities’. Requests from Rail Alliance members should be channelled via e.rees@bham.ac.uk by 16.30 today.
