Rail union leader calls for Boris Johnson to be jailed

TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes said Boris Johnson 'should be in jail' after his suspension of Parliament was ruled illegal by the Scottish Court of Session. Mr Cortes said: 'He’s not fit to hold office and along with this disgraceful government must be held to account.'. Three judges ruled that the prorogation was 'improper' following a challenge by campaigners and MPs, and said Mr Johnson had misled the Queen over the real reasons for the suspension. One of the judges, Lord Brodie, said: 'This was an egregious case of a clear failure to comply with generally accepted standards of behaviour of public authorities.' The case will now go to the Supreme Court for a hearing next week and MPs are already calling for Mr Johnson to recall Parliament, but No 10 says nothing will be done ahead of the Supreme Court's ruling.

HS2 Bill moves forward in House of Lords

THE Bill authorising the second phase of HS2 from Birmingham to Crewe has made progress in the House of Lords, when it passed Second Reading. There will be no further advances for the next five weeks, because Parliament is now prorogued until 14 October, when the debate in the Lords will continue, followed by the Committee Stage.
