Ealing Broadway Crossrail plans approved

PROPOSALS for a major upgrade of Ealing Broadway station as part of Crossrail were approved by Ealing Council’s Planning Committee last night (13 August).

The new station, designed by Bennetts Associates, will have a long, curved canopy running the length of the forecourt that Crossrail said 'will reflect the prominence and importance of the station building'. The dated 1970s façade will be replaced with a new glass structure and a new entrance twice the size of the existing one.

Other improvements include a much larger ticket hall, more than twice the size of the present one, four new lifts, improved staircases, platform extensions, new toilets and better passenger information displays.

Crossrail had worked closely with the London Borough of Ealing, the local MP and community groups as well as local developers and nearby landowners, and said these dialogues will continue.

Construction by Network Rail is expected to begin next summer and to last around 18 months.
