Main line blocked by derailment near Dalwhinnie

THE line between Perth and Inverness is blocked by a derailed HST, which came to grief near Dalwhinnie in the small hours of Saturday morning.

The five-car set was running at low speed under test when one power car became derailed, along with one bogie of the adjacent Mk3 trailer. It is reported that the derailment occurred close to some points.

There were no passengers because it was a test working, and the staff on board were uninjured.

Train services between Inverness and Perth are being replaced by buses until later today at least.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched an inquiry, and its inspectors have been at the scene.
