Operations Standards Manager

Based in Derby, at the heart of the UK rail industry, LORAM UK specialise in engineering and re-engineering work on railway traction and rolling stock offering modern, well equipped workshops. We offer a full range of rolling stock engineering solutions; from train servicing through routine fleet maintenance to the heaviest of vehicle and component re-engineering projects. Backed by a highly skilled workforce, the business employs a rail operations team that is responsible for delivering customer trains on time and safely onto the national network.

To help us deliver this service, we are seeking an experienced Operations Standards Manager. Reporting to the Operations Director, key job responsibilities will include:

 Working closely with our Professional Head of Operations to provide expertise and advice to our front-line teams in all areas of train and yard operations, ensuring through a system of operational compliance checks, that LORAM UK’s operational standards are met and maintained.

 Robust and flexible resource management of all shunters, shunt drivers and main line drivers in a fast paced environment, ensuring adequate and suitable resources in line with workload needs.

 Development and setting of rail operation standards, ensuring full operational implementation as well as audit and monitoring to ensure the integrity of our Company Management System.

 Co-ordination of competence assessments for all shunters, shunt drivers and main line drivers. Arrange training and development of the team as required.

 Liaison with customers, regulatory bodies and other industry partners to ensure that our operation standards drive appropriate compliance across all rail operations safety critical activities. Specific experience, knowledge and qualifications required

 A thorough knowledge of Railway operational rules, Depot operating Instructions, Network Rail / Industry Standards and statutory legislation.

 Extensive knowledge and experience of rail operations preferably in freight locomotives, coaching stock and/or rail on-track machines

 Currently holds and will be expected to maintain an up to date main line train driving competence with at least three years’ train driving experience

 Desirable to be working towards NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Qualified to Level 3 in Assessing (or equivalent).

 Desirable to be working towards Competence in the Work Environment (or equivalent).

 Holder of or working towards incident investigation skills with training in root cause analysis, human factors and non-technical skills.

 Successful completion of accredited Safety Auditor course


 Experience of working in a control environment

 Experience of working with on track machines

 Signal sighting competence to committee level.

 Knowledge of train crew link structures and rostering principles

 Car driving licence
