GM Rail Services personnel undergo assessment and training at its Railway Engineering School and Technical Assessment Centre in Rugby, Warwickshire.
We run an external programme of training courses for signalling activities, including:-
- SMTH renewal & initial training
- SWTH Mod 5, 3A, 3C, 3D, 3BL, and 4 initial and assessment
- Back drive and adjustable stretcher training

- HW points machine installation and maintenance

Key features to the indoor facility include:
- Four types of points operation; mechanical, clamp locks, HW2000 & M63 machines with M3, 5P and SGE machines on site
- Two types of back drive - single and double with supplementary detectors
- Three types of full length switch: B, C and F (all on timber)
- A Shallow Depth ‘D’ Switch on concrete.
- Four types of track circuit: DC, TI21, HVI and AC
- An 8 lever frame with mechanical signals and detectors

- A full TPWS fitment
- AHB level crossing rig loc barriers with associated circuits
- A range of 2, 3 & 4 aspect signals with subsidiary, route indicators and stencil indications, a fibre optic banner, a 4 aspect LED signal including route indicator and sub signal, together with AWS magnets and suppressors
- Three lengths of plain line rail with flat bottom, bull head and RT60 rail
- Three air conditioned classrooms with ceiling mounted projectors
- A standard AWS arrangement including a suppressor, as well as a ‘Southern’ AWS
- A working block section
- A Westinghouse Style L Combined Lock, an SGE Type GA Style Combined Lock with an SGE Gravity Lock and an assortment of circuit controllers and Westinghouse lever catch handle equipment. As well as an SGE Type HJ 103 Electric Detector Box, three slides for facing points with tappet actuator contacts.
We are also able to provide a bespoke programme of coaching, training, competence assessment and verification for external clients.
