Soul man Malcolm heads for the stars

DJ Malcolm

BIRMINGHAM New Street-based Cross-Country customer service advisor Malcolm Burke has plenty of opportunity to share his enthusiasm for cult music with his audience – broadcasting on New Style Radio 98.7 FM.

Malcolm has his own show on the community radio station on Thursday evenings between 10pm and midnight.

The part-time DJ specialises in retro soul, covering garage, soulful house, neon soul and rhythm and blues – and now his on-air skills have landed him a spot at national radio station Galaxy’s second birthday party.

“New Style is a radio station set up for the Afro Caribbean community, to give people a voice,” said Malcolm. “I have a passion for retro music, and I play things which most people don’t normally hear.

“Working on a voluntary basis as a semi-professional DJ is a challenge given that I have a day job, but I really enjoy it.”
