Drivers who dared to bare raise £10,000
First Capital Connect MD Elaine Holt hands over the cheque to the now fully-clothed Simon Cowley and Mandy Hill.
First Capital Connect drivers who stripped for a cheeky calendar raised £10,000 for two children’s charities.
Thirteen male and female drivers from Bedford depot parted with their clothes to appear in the tasteful Drivers in the Buff calendar.
Elaine Holt, managing director of First Capital Connect, presented a cheque for £5,000 to two of the drivers who featured in the calendar, and who took delivery of the cash on behalf of one of the benefiting charities – the Ahotokurom Rehabilitation Project in Ghana.
The remaining balance of £5,000 was donated to the Railway Children, the charity that works with children at risk all across the world.
Elaine Holt said: “When the drivers at Bedford first approached me about making this calendar, I must say I was slightly shocked.
“But because it was for such great charities, I thought it was a wonderful idea and was very happy for First Capital Connect to support their initiative.”
Driver Simon Cowley – Mr August – said: “I am really proud that we raised so much money. Originally we aimed to raise £500 to buy a prosthetic leg for Joseph, a boy living in Ghana, but we have achieved so much more.
“When I first became a driver I never thought I would be taking my clothes off for a calendar, but I would do it all again because it was for a good cause and we also had a great time doing it.”
