London tube chiefs have launched an investigation into a rush hour power blackout which left more than 5000 people stranded on trains.
Commuters on nine trains on the Jubilee line feared a possible terrorist attack as the trains were left with only back-up battery powered lighting and temperatures in packed coaches soared.

The trains were stranded by up to three hours and commuters had to be led to safety through the tunnels to stations just after 6pm last night (Thursday 3 April).

Passengers were led along tracks between Canary Wharf and Canada Water; North Greenwich and Canary Wharf, Bermondsey and London Bridge; and Green Park and Westminster.

Ambulances were alerted but there were no reported injuries.

A Transport for London spokeswoman said passengers were kept informed of the on-going situation by train drivers.

The Jubilee line, running from Stanmore in the north-west of the capital to Stratford, site of the 2012 Olympics, is used by half a million people a day.
