Reports say Byford is set to resign from TfL

London transport commissioner Andy Byford is poised to resign, it has been reported. Mr Byford has just completed the lengthy process of procuring a financial settlement for Transport for London from the government, and was also responsible for providing transport for hundreds of thousands of people who were in London on Monday for the State Funeral of the Queen.

Another strike on Avanti West Coast

Avanti West Coast cleaners employed by Atalian Servest who are members of the RMT will be staging a 24-hour strike tomorrow, in protest at low pay. Pickets will be assembling outside a number of West Coast stations, including London Euston, Glasgow Central, Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street.

TfN says three million are victims of poor transport

Millions of people in the north of England are handicapped by a lack of adequate transport, accoring to research carried out by Transport for the North. TfN said transport-related social exclusion is a complex issue with many potential causes and consequences, but the ultimate result is that people are prevented from participating in the opportunities and communities around them.

Network Rail measurement train fitted with ETCS

Testing has been completed successfully on digital signalling equipment fitted to the Class 43 power cars on Network Rail’s New Measurement Train. The work was carried out at the Network Rail Rail Innovation and Development Centre, which was upgraded recently. The project was managed by Porterbrook under instruction from Network Rail, and the contractor for the project was Thales. The RIDC will now be preparing some 700 vehicles for ETCS on the East Coast Main Line over the next two years.
