Railway will be open for business over holiday weekend

Network Rail has reminded passengers that the ‘vast majority’ of the rail network will be open for business as usual this August Bank Holiday weekend. However, upgrades costing a total of £90 million are being carried out, which means some routes will be affected by engineering possessions. Network Rail added that bank holidays provide a particularly productive opportunity to carry out work on the railway, but with leisure travel having recovered strongly since the pandemic, it is keen to disrupt journeys for leisure travellers as little as possible.

New campaign explains Transpennine Upgrade

The Transpennine Route Upgrade team has launched a new campaign, ‘On Track to Better’, which aims to communicate the benefits of the works to achieve a multi-billion pound programme of improvements between York, Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester. The campaign consists of messages on social media, TV, radio, digital billboards, the internet and at stations. At the heart of the campaign is a stop motion animation advertisement featuring both TransPennine Express and Northern, that explains the benefits.

Games down the line

Great Western Railway is running a series of ‘Game Trains’ from today, when passengers on board certain services between London, Oxford and Bristol will be invited to play Dobble, the card game in which players must spot matching symbols. GWR said it was ‘incredibly grateful’ to Dobble for ‘EnterTraining’ its customers. The Game Trains will run for the rest of the summer and during the October half term holidays.
