National Rail sets out to attract commuters with coffee

Legal facemask requirements end in England today, but train operators will continue to encourage their use, while they remain compulsory on Transport for London services. Meanwhile, National Rail operators are attempting to attract commuters back on board by offering them free coffee, food and drink discounts, audio books and other benefits. The scheme is managed through a new website, nationalrail.co.uk/commuter, which went live this morning. The Rail Delivery Group said peak hour passenger numbers have already risen by 5 per cent after working from home restrictions were eased last week.

Transport for the North calls on DfT for funding clarity

The Department for Transport is being urged to make the future funding arrangements for TfN clear, amid reports that more than 100 jobs at TfN could be at risk. Business leaders and politicians say there is 'grave concern' about what happens next, because although the financial year will end soon TfN is still waiting to hear what funding it can expect over the next three years.

More station CCTV on EMR

East Midlands Railway is investing more than £120,000 on installing CCTV at Alsager, Belper, Matlock Bath and Willington stations. EMR said the new cameras will help to combat anti-social behaviour, graffiti and other vandalism. The equipment is expected to be working by the spring.
