Railway staff praised for life-saving actions

STAFF at Govia Thameslink Railway have been praised for their work to help vulnerable passengers, whose needs are greater than usual because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The greatest risk is posed by suicidal people, and GTR staff have acted upon advice and training from the Samaritans charity to intervene 45 times so far this year, potentially saving a life each time. GTR's suicide prevention manager Laura Campbell said: ‘This is a very challenging time for all of us, and we acknowledge that everyone at some stage during this pandemic could feel vulnerable. For all our passengers, we want to show that we’re with them and we recognise how important it is that our colleagues are equipped with the skills to help vulnerable people.’
