Major Northampton scheme gets green light

NORTHAMPTON station is in line for a £20 million redevelopment after confirmation of funding from the Department for Transport.

The DfT will provide £10 million while other partners, including Network Rail, will provide the rest. The scheme has been promoted by West Northamptonshire Development Corporation.

The station is one of the key hubs between Rugby and London Euston, dealing with some 2.5 million passengers a year.

The plan is mostly for car parking. Each space works out at a construction cost of around £24,000. There appears to be not intention to address the bus non connectivity.
